課程目標
This course addresses issues on the deformations of deformable bodies. The main topics include analysis and design of structural members subjected to tension, compression, torsion, bending and shearing. Some of the most fundamental concepts in solid mechanics, such as displacement and deformation, stress and strain, elasticity, strain energy, etc. are introduced. This course aims to help students absorb the basics about structural members and their strength, stiffness and stability. At the end of this course, students should be able to apply the equilibrium conditions, geometric relations and material constitutive relations to solve practical engineering problems involving stress and strain analysis.
